A moving company has a 92% success rate in its first year of business.
You see.. When summer comes around, anyone with a heartbeat can start up a moving business and get a call.
Because everyone is moving during the summer.
So what happens when summer ends and the slow season starts?
Your income takes a screeching halt. UNLESS... you drop some serious money to get leads.
A LOT of moving companies go this route, pay some money, and thier phone starts ringing.
The cost? $40 to $150 for one lead.
That's the trap most moving company owners get into.
They pay to play.
They stay busy by giving up their profits to lead sites, which I won't mention here.
That's why I'm here to reveal the top 5 unique ways to get more leads in 2027.
If you need more leads and want to profit way more, then keep reading.
But wait.. What happens when you start to get more leads?
You guessed it: more jobs.
Which means you need to add more crews to handle all the demand.
That's how the big companies scale huge.
Get more leads, book more jobs, and hire more crews.
Training employees takes weeks before they can be on their own.
And this alone will break the entire process.
All the leads that came will need to be turned down and marked as lost.
Unless... you have a system in place.
A system that keeps the machine oiled and pumps out profit.
A system that protects your profits from claims caused by new employees.
A system that lets you say yes to every single job because you'll always have a trained crew.
Introducing Hikkoshi Wraps, newly redesigned moving blankets that form to any piece of furniture.
Your team is trained in minutes, not weeks.
Now that you know what to do once you start getting more leads, let's get into the lead sources
Google My Business (GMB)
You know when you search on Google for which restaurant to go to and it shows you a list of places nearby?
That's exactly what this is.
And that's why you need to get an office in the downtown area of your city so you actually show up in the list of nearby places.
I won't go into too much detail here, but you can rent a space for cheap and use it to get verified on Google.
Google has really cracked down over the years, so getting away with your home address or a virtual office is a thing of the past.
Even if you are able to get away with it, I've already had 2 Google listings with hundreds of reviews get zapped overnight for this exact reason.
Rent an office.
How long does it take to get results? If you follow my advice of getting an office as close as possible to downtown and actively chase reviews.
6 months.
After 6 months, you should be able to never rely on a paid lead source ever again and get calls daily.
That's how long it took me to recover after being zapped and start all over, which wasn't that long ago.
This could vary depending on your city. But expect to pay anywhere from $200-$500/month for office space.
I currently pay $300 for each office (I service 3 cities).
Nothing fancy, just a place you can use to take a few videos for Google.
Bottom line: It's free to sign up, office space will cost you $200-$500/month, and it will get you completely off paid lead sites.
Doorhangers
Have you ever walked out of your house and seen a little marketing material hanging from your doorknob to get a quote on a new roof or power washing?
That's what this is.
Despite how innocent and annoying it might look, they work surprisingly well!
People who own big, fancy, and expensive houses are likely much older and don't spend much time on the internet, if at all.
That's why doorhangers work so well.
They get the attention of the homeowner 100% of the time (unless they never leave their house).
AND they are hyper-targeted (only get delivered to homes that are for sale).
They cost around 50 cents to print, so your only real cost is your time and gas.
If you're looking to drum up business ASAP, doorhangers are the quickest solution to get the phone ringing.
Expect to get your first call in 1-2 days, given you are hitting houses all day, every day.
Which brings me to the downsides: you will be driving A LOT, and if you're paying someone to do this, it might not even be profitable with gas prices being so high.
Bottom line: Pros: Very cheap, around ~50 cents a doorhanger, gets the phone ringing ASAP, and only high-ticket moves. Cons: Very time-consuming, likely unprofitable if you pay someone to do it for you, and lots of wear and tear on your vehicle.
Content
You know when you're bored on your phone, and you start scrolling. Ya that, that's content.
The best part is, it truly costs zero money to start recording something and post it on the internet.
I personally just record myself working, add a little voiceover, tell a story or give out some tips, and that's how I really got my business off the ground.
I get it, it's not for everyone, putting yourself out there, or being camera shy.
BUT.. You can do other things like faceless content or stick to photos.
All it takes is one viral video to get you so much business you can't keep up.
When I first launched my brand, I sold out 3 times.
I have yet to pay a single dollar for marketing, so it's crazy to me for someone to not post content.
For results, it depends on your effort. If you're like me, I post 3x a day - 7 days a week.
Seems like a lot, but you get quicker and quicker, and it doesn't take up too much time.
In all honesty, this is the direction everything is going: people want to get to know the company that is going to visit their home.
People buy your story, not your moving truck.
Bottom line: Zero investment needed with huge ROI potential; it only requires your time. Hands down the best marketing lead source of 2027. Cons: time-consuming and requires consistency to work.
Facebook Groups
Have you ever seen someone on Facebook ask for recommendations for a trusted plumber?
Then a ton of people comment with companies they recommend?
That's what Facebook Groups are for.
To get recommended when someone is looking for a mover.
Or better yet, you recommend yourself!
I won't go into too much detail about how it works, but it's completely free.
And it takes a lot of trust-building before you start to see any results.
And if you spam in these groups, you will likely be kicked out, so it takes some patience.
You can get lucky and get a job right away, or it might take a few weeks or months to build up your reputation in the group.
People build their entire businesses off Facebook groups, so this is worthwhile to look into because it would bring you down to zero ad spend.
Bottom line: Completely free but will take time to build up a solid reputation, and the competition is fierce. Once you're in, expect to pay zero dollars from now on in ad spend because all your jobs will be sourced organically. Takes patience and consistency to get people to trust you.
Reddit is one giant forum where people come with questions and leave with answers.
And a whole bunch of other stuff... but we won't get into that.
Reddit is a huge website so it ranks very high in Google.
So when someone asks which mover they recommend in your city subreddit, and someone drops your company name.
You will start ranking for movers in your city.
This works almost like Facebook groups, and it takes time to build your name and reputation.
You can start seeing results right away because you will be at the top of search results, since Reddit ranks at the top on a Google search.
There is zero cost, and if done right, you can drive some serious traffic to your website.
I personally watched a guy go from posting food recipes to opening his own restaurant with a line at the door every single day.
So yes, Reddit is powerful.
Bottom line: Hands down the quickest way to start ranking in Google search and drives serious traffic to your website, if done right. Expect to get banned if you start spamming; patience is needed and will pay off 10-fold.
